Ontbirds subscribers,

The Hermit Warbler is still here at Thickson's Woods. It was active at dawn at
the big cedars on the eastern side of my house, but soon flew off north through
the woods.

After not seeing it for several hours, I just saw it fifteen minutes ago at the
top end of Corbett Avenue (one laneway west of my house) feeding low to the
ground. It eventually flew to the east toward the centre of the woods and has
not been relocated yet, as far as I know. However, there are very few observers
here searching yet.

There is a harsh and cold southeast wind blowing in off the lake, so if you
come please dress for the weather. In these winds. the bird may be seeking
cover more and not exerting itself frequently until things warm up more.

I have just received word from Dave Worthington that he has found a pair of
Piping Plovers that have arrived on the beach at Darlington Provincial Park.

Thickson's Woods is accessed by exiting Highway 401 at exit 412 (Thickson Road)
and going south 2 km down Thickson Road South to its terminus. Park at the
bottom of Thickson Road and walk in to the woods along the Waterfront Trail
where you see the large Thickson's Woods Nature Reserve sign.

Good luck to those that come,

Glenn Coady
Whitby
