Migrant shorebirds were the highlight again this week. July 31, a rare, WESTERN SANDPIPER in the Niagara County Town of Wilson, on Fitch Road, near Youngstown-Wilson Road, with three SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS. An AMERICAN AVOCET, July 30, on the Lake Erie shore at Woodlawn Beach Park in Hamburg. The avocet flew off into the distance after sunset. Shorebirds also at the wetland at North Bailey and Ridge Lea in Amherst - KILLDEER, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER and SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER. In the Oak Orchard Wildlife Management Area, behind the education center on Knowlesville Road, a pair of SANDHILL CRANES with one, young colt. And, MERLINS have nested and fledged young at two locations in the City of Buffalo. You may report sightings after the tone.
