  The Buffalo Bird Report is a service provided
  by your Buffalo Museum of Science and the
  Buffalo Ornithological Society. To contact the
  Science Museum, call 896-5200. Press the pound
  key to report sightings before the end of this
  report.

  Highlights of reports received August 22
  through September 5 from the Niagara Frontier
  Region.

  September 3 in Chautauqua County, a rare treat
  - a WHIP-POOR-WILL calling before dawn, from a
  pine woods in a Forestville yard.

  Shorebirds, and now warblers, provide the
  birding interest entering into September.

  A list of 13 warblers species were reported
  this week at Wilson-Tuscarora State Park and a
  nearby yard. Highlighted by a MOURNING WARBLER.
  Along with the warblers, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO.

  COMMON NIGHTHAWKS at several locations, with a
  maximum of 10 at Beaver Island State Park on
  September 3.

  Shorebird highlights were a WILSON'S PHALAROPE
  at Mohawk Pool in the Iroquois Refuge on August
  23, and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, September 2, at
  North Marsh, in the Oak Orchard Wildlife
  Management Area. Also, STILT SANDPIPER still at
  North Marsh with 17 WILSON'S SNIPE.

  From the Buffalo Outer Harbor, at the Seaway
  Slip - WHIMBREL, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, three
  BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 5 SEMIPALMATED
  PLOVERS. Two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS on the Bird
  Island Pier, and a single BAIRD'S SANDPIPER at
  Dunkirk Harbor.

  Other shorebirds on the Buffalo waterfront -
  RUDDY TURNSTONE and numbers of SANDERLINGS.

  In Ontario, abundant KILLDEER and several
  AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS at the sod farms in
  Dunnville. And for the record, the MARBLED
  GODWIT at Dufferin Islands in Niagara Falls,
  was reported August 22.

  Other recent reports - at Beaver Island State
  Park on Grand Island, RED-HEADED WDPKR.,
  PILEATED WOODPECKER, MERLIN and 35 CHIMNEY
  SWIFTS. And, night migrant WOOD THRUSH,
  SWAINSON'S THRUSH and VEERY have been heard
  over the Town of Tonawanda.

  The first BOS meeting of the season will be on
  Wednesday, September 11, at 7 PM, at the Museum
  of Science. The program will feature member's
  photos. Visitors are always welcome at BOS
  meetings.
