Please join us for three days of fantastic field trips as we explore Hamilton and area in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Hamilton Naturalists' Club. The Friday evening "Birds and Beers" features presentations by Bob Curry (Hamilton's Birds of the Year 2000-2018. The birds, the finders and the stories) and Sarah Rupert's always enjoyable Birding Challenge Quiz. A buffet meal is optional. Enjoy the Saturday evening presentations, excellent banquet and keynote speaker Jeff Skevington (Birding by Molecules). Don’t forget to come early to enjoy our raffle and many birding related vendors and displays. Evening events are at the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel where we have arranged reduced room rates for accommodation. *Please note that the reduced rate expires on September 9. *We are working to extend the group rate but at this point the rate expires on Monday. Ask for the 'Ontario Field Ornithologists' group block. *Read more about the convention and register at: * www.ofo.ca/convention/index *Last Call for Certificate of Appreciation Nominations* It's that time of year again where we encourage our members to nominate individuals or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the birds and birding community of Ontario. With the OFO Convention just a few weeks away, it is important that you submit your nominations by *September 11*. Nominations can range from individuals or organizations that work on protecting birds or habitat important to birds, individuals who have contributed to the study of birds in Ontario, or an individual that allowed birders onto their property to view a rare bird. Nomination are not restricted to these examples so if you know someone who deserves recognition for other contributions, we encourage you to fill out a form. Nominations will be reviewed by the OFO Board of Directors at the next Board Meeting and the Certificates of Appreciation will be presented at the OFO Convention. A list of past recipients can be found at http://www.ofo.ca/site/Certificates. *Ottawa West Field Trip Date Changed to September 22* The trip to Ottawa West, originally scheduled for September 8th, has been rescheduled for Sep 22nd. Meet at 7:30 am on Cassels Road, outside the gate to the Britannia Filtration Plant. Trip leader is Jeff Skevington. Expect fall migrants: warblers, sparrows, waterfowl, shorebirds, gulls.
