Just a quick note today as I'm having some computer issues. It was a good week for geese with the continuing GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE seen at Button Bay, Wolfe Island, through to 12th at least. Three CACKLING GEESE have also been present at this location but were also last seen on 12th. A ROSS'S GOOSE was the find of the week however, being found on 11th and continuing into the early week on the waterfront at Bath.
As many as 3 NORTHERN PINTAIL have been seen over the course of the week on Wolfe Island, and the male NORTHERN SHOVELER has continued at Hillview Pond, Kingston. CANVASBACK, not a common bird in these parts, have been seen in Cataraqui Bay, Kingston, on a couple of occasions. The Wolfe Island adult grey GYRFALCON was seen on 16th at Button Bay but the number of SNOWY OWLS has backed right off with a grand tally of just 4 birds on Wolfe yesterday (16th). Also very scarce are harriers, hawks, and shrikes. The number of SNOW BUNTINGS in the area has increased and with them was the first LAPLAND LONGSPUR for several weeks with a single bird seen at the east end of Wolfe Island on 12th. The pair of NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour continued all week, as did the long-staying SPOTTED TOWHEE at Prince Edward Point.
