Hi all, There are still lots of birds coming to the feeders..Evening Grosbeak ( +56, ) , Goldfinches (+ 30's) Pine siskins(+25's) Blue Jays (+7) Black capped chickadees are low in numberthis year; Purple finches..depending on weather.if it's snowing, LOTS. I still have the 3 juncos. To the suet..Downy and Hairy woodpeckers. ..and of course the gray jays are here . On Wed. morning my husband saw a Pileated woodpecker eating Mountain Ash berries at a neighbours yard.
I did have a Northern Shrike on a clear sunny day sitting in a poplar tree surveying the kingdom. Driving into town yesterday on 560, we saw flocks of Crossbills.white winged and red. We stopped at one place to check on a dead bird.. it was a red crossbill. Also saw Pine Grosbeaks but none have come to the feeders yet this year. Even on the road there are very few. Not as exciting as down South. but hey at least I have birds, not like the many who are having a disappointing season thus far here in my area. Cheers again folks, Gert Hwy 560 West Temiskaming Dist, Via highway 11 North _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
