A winter plumaged Eared Grebe floated on the lake off the tip of the spit today
accompanied by a winter plumaged Horned Grebe allowing a very helpful
comparison. Thinner neck and beak, rounder head compared to Horned Grebe. Dusky
grey neck and auriculars, whitish area limited to a narrow crescent behind
auriculars. Seen as close as 20 m from shore.
Other FOY birds were Fox Sparrow, Barn and Tree Swallow, Common Loon.
