Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Warm day with temperatures reachign and rising above mid-20s to 30s. Cloud cover changed throughout the day from a majority cloud cover to only partly cloudy, visibility was good. Winds were mainly southwesterly which likely hampered hawk migration. Raptor Observations: Low raptor count day with no buteos reported and only one accipiter. All three common falcons were reported (Peregrine, Merlin, Kestrel), although in low numbers. Resident Eagles and Osprey were present. Low Turkey Vulture movement also present. Non-raptor Observations: Large numbers of migrating American Goldfinch were observed as well as Cedar Waxwing. A diverse Warbler presence continues around the tower. Large numbers of resident waterfowl present, with the continuing addition of American Coot. https://ebird.org/checklist/S94573463 Predictions: Winds are expected to be Easterly throughout the day with hopes of it going North towards the afternoon. It is also expected to rain/storm in the morning hours which also may impact the migration of hawks overheard.
