Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Consistent cloud cover was present throughout the day with rain arriving in the noon/afternoon hours, potentially hindering raptor movement. Wind was also consistently southerly, which may have discouraged buteo movement. Temperature was mid 20's with high humidity. Raptor Observations: Low raptor count overall with relatively low number of Sharp-Shinneds (15) as well as occasional Peregrine Falcon (4) and Merlin (5) appearances. Weather conditions likely discouraged raptor movement. Non-raptor Observations: There was high Tree Swallow (250) movement and high Blue Jay (450) movement, however this was low relative to past few days. Waterfowl variety continues to increase over marsh with species diversity of ducks becoming more rich. Heron and Egret numbers were relatively low today. 9 species of Warbler were present today. https://ebird.org/checklist/S94988359 Predictions: Heavy rains are expected tomorrow which will likely hamper raptor movements and raptor observations. This is quite unfortunate since strong northerly winds are expected tomorrow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jacob Stasso ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2021 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
