Weather: Today started with partly cloudy skies but eventually became full overcast. Temperatures rose to about 14 C but then fell slightly as cloud cover rolled in to 12 C. Fog was present throughout the day in periodic intervals, slightly reducing visibility. Wind was a light north-easterly. Raptor Observations: Despite north-easterly winds, today was another slow day for raptors. Only 13 Turkey Vultures were present as well as single digits of Sharpies, Cooper's, and Bald Eagles. Harriers continue to be slightly higher with 10 today. Buteos were once again slow with only 45 Red Tails and 6 Red Shoulders. 3 immature Golden Eagles made an appearance at around noon. Non-raptor Observations: Another diverse non-raptor day with high species in the marsh, a nice find were flocks of flying Canvasback, and slightly higher species of passerines such as in sparrows and finches. Large Goldfinch (230) movement and Eastern BlueBird movement (61) was observed. Crow migration has once again elevated with around 6300 passing over today. Blackbird movement was consistent with past days. A single monarch was seen today! https://ebird.org/checklist/S97367677 Predictions: Tomorrow it is expected to start cooler, at 8 C, with temperatures rising to 12 C as the sky moves from partly cloudy to clear sun. Winds are expected to start north-easterly with the potential of shifting easterly by the day's end. Hopefully clear skies and northerly wind components bring in more raptors! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jacob Stasso ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2021 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
