Dear OFO, Don’t wanna read - click here - https://forms.gle/nrQuYokDkUc4tfjL6
The miraculous discovery of the Marsh Sandpiper, and the OFO memberships remarkable response to coordinate viewing, got me thinking again about the impacts (+ and -) of this particular aspect of our pastime - the lure, the chase, the intrigue and excitement of rare birds. The following informal survey is a first kick at attempting to capture information to help us better understand the impact of rare birds in Ontario. Results may be used to document and promote the further discovery and sharing of rare birds, potentially inform mitigation efforts of negative impacts, or for future publications on the subject. It will also help to hold and improve OFO’s rare bird ambassador program. The results so far are incredibly interesting and they will all be shared publicly once a critical mass has been realized. Ideally this is something we could repeat for many major rarities in the province based on some threshold(s).
