Weather: What a windy day today! Winds were very strong from the southwest today, partially cloudy with a few drizzles here and there. Raptor Observations: Despite the south winds, we had a good number of raptors seen today. Turkey vultures glided across the shore for most of the day, and some passed to the north. There were a good number of falcons today, including 12 kestrels, 4 merlins and 6 peregrines. We've officially surpassed 100,000 raptors for the 2022 migration season! Non-raptor Observations: The non-raptor checklist is a tad bit shorter than usual, due to the wind. However, we did see some great birds today, including a female summer tanager and a pelican! Be sure to check out the eBird list for a photo of the summer tanager taken by Noel Herdman. Thanks Noel! There were also much fewer ducks on the marsh today, the majority were gadwall. https://ebird.org/checklist/S120610025 Predictions: Tomorrow may be similar to today, with high southwest winds and partly cloudy. It will be a chilly day! Iâm sure we will get some hawks tomorrow. Hopefully more falcons in this blustery weather. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Nicole Shangi ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2022 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
