Thank you to all of our visitors today, it was a beautiful day to visit Holiday Beach. Weather: The weather today was extremely pleasant with a warm breeze and clear skies. The fog and haze lifted today for the most part. The tower was protected from much of the strong winds that the rest of Holiday Beach was experiencing. Raptor Observations: Today was very slow. Over the day there were a handful of red tailed hawks and a few red shouldered hawks. Two golden eagles passed to the north, one in the late morning and one in the late afternoon. One sharpie passed close to the tower and all other species were absent. Non-raptor Observations: Despite the shorter species list there were some highlights today. There were plenty of shorebirds to count on the exposed mud such as dunlin, pectoral sandpipers and yellowlegs. The reduced haze increased visibility to see huge numbers of ducks on the outskirts of the marsh. We saw a new species for the year which was a northern mockingbird which hung around in a tree for a bit. The Virginia rail continues to feed in the same spot it has been in for almost a full week. Two beavers were also swimming in the trout pond for the majority of the day which was a real treat! https://ebird.org/checklist/S121855769 Predictions: Tomorrow looks like there will be strong southerly winds again, with a slight chance of rain in the afternoon. It may be another slow day tomorrow, however as proven today, even slow days have golden eagles! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Nicole Shangi ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 Count data submitted via Dunkadoo - Project info at: https://dunkadoo.org/explore/hbmo/hbmo-hawk-watch-fall-2022 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
