The 52nd annual MeafordCBC was held December 28, under cloudy skies and mild 
temperature which rangedfrom -1° - +5°C. Winds were light. Snow cover, after 
the weekendblizzard, was 1- 3 feet in areas. Meaford is located on the south 
shore of GeorgianBay.

28 field observerstallied up 56 species, a bit above the 15-year average of 53 
species.


Two new-to-the-countspecies were added this year: Ruddy Duck and Winter Wren, 
bringing the cumulativespecies total to 126. The 4724 individual birds counted 
were the 4thhighest total in the last 15 years.

New high countswere recorded for six species: 18 HoodedMerganser (11 in 2021), 
25 Horned Grebe (10 in 2021), 101 American Robin (89 in2021), 1153 Bohemian 
Waxwing (882 in 2010), 40 Purple Finch (22 in 2015) and 2 White-throatedSparrow 
(singles in 3/ past 15 years).
