Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent

Observers: Aldo Bertucci, Liz Kent, Peter Veighey

Visitors:
Thanks to Aldo, Peter, John and David and Jane for helping in recording and
observing. Good to have a visit from Chip with a banded Northern Harrier
and from Michelle and Nelsy after finishing their passerine banding
session. Good to meet Sandra and Lynne and Ed and Lisa who took a great
interest in the Hawk Watch.

Weather:
Wind was light, sometimes moderate from the south west. Partial cover of
wispy high cloud all day with the temperature quickly rising in the morning
to about 25c reducing to about 21c late afternoon. Visibility was good

Raptor Observations:
Sharp-shinned Hawks (183) again led the way with Turkey Vultures (38) and
Northern Harriers (30) some way back. It seemed a good Harrier day with
them floating by throughout the count. Unfortunately American Kestrels (8)
continue with low counts. Red-tailed Hawks (7) are beginning to appear.
Good Peregrine day with 4 seen, each flying like a fast jet across the
marsh, strafing the odd unfortunate duck.

Non-raptor Observations:
Fewer ducks today but American Coot (72) numbers continue to increase. Good
woodpecker day with 5 species seen. We tried hard for songbirds and managed
to see with four Warbler Species including a Wilson's Warbler and three
Vireo Species seen. Lower numbers of American Goldfinch (40) and Cedar
Waxwing (29) today with Blue Jays (9) seemingly waiting in the wings for
the inevitable big push. The list is at
https://ebird.org/checklist/S150437281

Predictions:
A cloudy day is forecast with light winds from the south east. The
temperature will be similar to today. I guess we will be getting a pretty
similar mix to today, but hopefully with a few more American Kestrels.
