Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent

Observers: Liz Kent, Michael Arthurs, Ralph Billingsley

Visitors:
Big thanks to Michael for keeping us company and helping observe and record
all day. Thanks also to Ralph for helping observe. It was good to see Brian
and Susan again who also helped with observing and saw a Rough-legged Hawk.
It was good to meet Bruce, Betty and their dog Zoe, and Laura who all
showed a great interest in the Hawk Watch. Laura was able to see a Golden
Eagle.

Weather:
Another day of moderate winds from the west, with variable cloud cover. The
temperature started at 7c and rose throughout the day to 13c. Visibility
was good all day.

Raptor Observations:
More Golden Eagles with eight seen mostly to the north. The first raptor of
the day was a light phase Rough-legged Hawk with another one late morning.
Red-tailed Hawks (91) took the top spot with Turkey Vultures (76) second. A
few Red-shouldered Hawks (10) were mixed in with the Red-tails. Northern
Harriers (9) also were mainly to the north with one male immature spending
a long time hunting around Harrier Island to the north of the Tower. Bald
Eagles (8), Sharp-shinned Hawks (8) and Cooper's Hawks (4) completed the
list for today. Highlight of the afternoon was getting to see up close a
Golden Eagle that was caught and banded by the Lake Station Team, Chip and
Tim.

Non-raptor Observations:
Another Duck day with thirteen Species seen, including a single Redhead
female that was associating with a pair of Hooded Mergansers. The large
raft of Ring-necked Duck (1760) has also returned. A flock of Red-breasted
Mergansers (152) passed by on the lake. Tundra Swans (31) again flew over
with some alighting on the marsh. There were flocks of small birds flying
over the Tower including American Pipits (36), Horned Larks (18), House
Finch (14) and Eastern Bluebirds (36), four of which paid us a visit and
perched on the tops of a nearby tree. Purple Finch (3) and Pine Siskin (3)
were also spotted. Noticeable numbers of American Goldfinch (410) also flew
by. The list is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S154171507

Predictions:
The forecast tomorrow is for sunny skies and a light wind from the North.
The temperature will be a bit lower maxing out at 8c. Hopefully we will see
a similar mix to today, but with more of everything!
