There were a few visitors to the Tower mostly to enjoy the view. Weather: The wind was moderate to strong from the west initially, turning to the south west by midday. The day started cold at 1c gradually rising to 9c early afternoon. It was clear and crisp under a cloudless sky. Raptor Observations: Red-tailed Hawks (60) again topped the list, with Bald Eagles (14) on the move taking second place. Turkey Vultures (10) were next with Red-shouldered Hawks (9) close behind. It was good to see Northern Harriers (7) still coming through with two 'gray ghosts' amongst them. Sharp-shinned Hawks (3) are still appearing and it was good to see two light phase Rough-legged Hawks. Singles of Golden Eagle, Merlin and Peregrine completed the list. The great majority of raptors were to the north. Non-raptor Observations: Ducks again dominate the list with Ring-necked Duck (3340) maintaining their numbers. Other duck numbers are a bit lower. It was good to see Hooded Merganser (5) and Bufflehead (4). With the exception of American Goldfinch (640) and Eastern Bluebird (54) small bird numbers continue to reduce, although there was a late in the day flurry of Dark-eyed Junco (8) around the Tower. The list is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S154720956 Predictions: Tomorrow's forecast indicates a light wind from the north to north west under a clear sky. Again there will be a cold start with temperatures rising to 9c early afternoon. Hopefully we should see a similar mix to today but with higher numbers. One or two over the Tower would be nice. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Hugh Kent ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
