Visitors:
Big thanks to Noel, Mike, Peter and Aldo for assisting in observing and
recording on such a cold day in the wind. Also, thanks to Dennis for
stopping in to take some pics.
Weather:
A cold steady NE wind along with a cloudy morning made a tough start to the
day. As the clouds cleared by noon, the bright sun brought the temps above
freezing. Temperature climbed from -2C to 3.7C. As the day progressed so
did the visibility.
Raptor Observations:
Bald Eagles (4) were the stars of the day with two quick Merlin zipping by.
A lone Red-tailed Hawk blessed us with its presence in the morning but the
lack of raptors has illustrated that we are near the end of Raptor
migration.
Non-raptor Observations:
Mallards (3570) made up the majority of ducks in the marsh to the north.
Other water fowl have dwindled in number and variety with the latest dose
of cold weather. Tundra Swans (47) made a few passes in small groups today,
passing over and landing in the Marsh. Great Blue Herons were up in numbers
(37) and a small group of Snow Buntings (8) were seen flying over the
marsh. Near the end of the day we were surprised by a fly by of a couple of
American Goldfinch (2). Other small birds continued to shelter from the
wind, until the afternoon sun made a permanent appearance.

Predictions:
Tomorrow's wind will be moderate from the north east at 13km/h, partly
cloudy and cold. Temperature will start above freezing and progressively
get better as the day reaches its end. Good luck tomorrow, Liz and Hugh, on
