Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Hugh Kent

Observers: Karen Padbury, Liz Kent, Noel Herdman, Peter Veighey

Visitors:
Thanks to Liz, Noel, Karen, Peter and Ralph who helped me with spotting and
counting today. It was great to see Dave and Linda on the Tower together
with Doug from Vancouver. Also Alban and Heather from Windsor, Mike and
Eric. It was good to meet Sharon from Mountbridge and Sandra from Glencoe.
We also enjoyed sharing the delights of Hawk Watching with a school party
hosted by Jess from ERCA.

Weather:
The wind was north west for most of the day, mostly moderate but with
spells of strong winds. It was cooler than past days, starting at about 15c
and ending a comfortable 20c. The day started cloudy but soon cleared to a
blue sky. Pressure was pretty much constant throughout. Visibility was
good.

Raptor Observations:
Another Turkey Vulture (1618) day with most streaming over or just north of
the Tower with the odd kettle forming to the east. Only a small number of
buteos accompanied them with three Broad-winged Hawks and ten Red-tailed
Hawks seen. Sharp-shinned Hawks (69) were again runners up with a few more
American Kestrels (12) appearing.

Non-raptor Observations:
Highlight of the day was a flock of American Pelicans (24) over the marsh
mid afternoon. Five Sandhill Cranes were also a bonus. Another quiet day
for songbirds, with the exception of American Goldfinch (410) which were
seen in better numbers today. Also it was good to see Northern Parula (2),
Purple Finch (2) and Blue-headed Vireo in the bushes south of the Tower.
Where are the Cedar Waxwings? Yet another day without seeing any. The list
is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S197949548

Predictions:
Another day of light north west winds is forecast under clear skies. Less
warm again with the temperature starting a chilly 8c and maxing out at 18c.
Most likely it will be another day of good Turkey Vulture numbers, but lets
hope we see more buteos with them.
