Weather: The rain overnight was done by sunrise. Overcast gave way to partly sunny skies mid-morning. Temp rose from a chilly 4C to 11C. Wind was moderate with occasional gusts, mostly from the north, ending NNW. Raptor Observations: Thanks a ton to Tom B. and Ken W. for spotting and counting today -- you were both amazing! Certainly the standout count day of the season -- just shy of a five-digit total (Thanks TVs!). The highlight was a subadult light morph Swainson's Hawk at 1245p EST that took interest in one of the banding stations and even perched briefly in a nearby tree before heading west. Multiple record shots taken. 5 Golden Eagles and 2 Peregrine Falcons were happy bonuses. Non-raptor Observations: A single, satellite-height Sandhill Crane, a few warblers, and a late Monarch (also wayyy up) were also noted. eBird list here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S198945339 Predictions: Partly sunny and moderate N to NW winds are predicted -- sounds good! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Chris Burris ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
