We are in the early stage of the annual flight of mostly Greater Snow Geese
in the east. Yesterday there was a report of 5-10,000 on the ice east of
Lancaster, moving further east towards Bainsville and perhaps into Quebec.
They were on the move throughout the day, heading north to corn fields and
returning to the ice later in the day. Geese do not overnight on land and
always return to water or in this case at least to ice. The Coast Guard
icebreaker is heading upriver now through the shipping channel on the US
side of the St. Lawrence so eventually that extensive ice area east of
Lancaster to Quebec will diminish, faster with high winds from the west.

The main spring flight, arriving from western New York, is yet to come and
is likely this week at some point. The majority of birds end up in Quebec
but a sizeable number eventually settle in Ontario for a while and move
about daily.
