I'm going to chime in with a point of view here as well.....I think this
type of political discussion is very relevant as it involves a possible rise of
power in govenrment of those with right wing evangelical views-those who
would like to see bisexuals cured or punished. Keep in mind that the more
the far religious right gets involved in the government, the less rights that
bisexual people will have. If someone is anti equal rights for
bisexual or gay men, my question would be what are they doing in
this group, unless they are 1) trolling; 2) A homophobic straight guy who is
here to hit on bi women for a threesome (and I notice there are quite a few of
those among the religious right); or 3) Someone who joined hoping for free porn
pics?
Make no mistake.....the "protecting marriage" stuff being publicized by the
far right at this time is an effort to sanction discrimination towards bis and
gays....since all of this marriage debate, violent crimes against both bis and
gays have increased. The judges the far right wants to appoint?
Imagine if consenting sexual acts between adults, same gender and maybe opposite
gender could become crimes if judges with radical evangelical views are
appointed to the Supreme Court and overturn Lawrence vs. Texas. Imagine if
the Net were censored and groups such as this one where bisexuals could discuss
things were suddenly censored. The people promoting the agenda to bring
the church into government have powerful tools a their hands.....they are using
fear, the same tool that fundamentalists use and have a lot of the mainstream
media on their side, in case others have not noticed. Many people are
willing to sacrifice their personal freedoms or those of others to protect
themselves.....which to me is tragic, as a life where one would have to conform
to another's idea of what they should be is not worth living.
I think it is fine to discuss politics, and this is not just about political party affiliation or whether or not one supports or does not support the war, the President, whatever. I am not going to say as some do that "all Republicans" are anti-LGBT rights, or "fascists", or that they want church and state to become one. Because it simply is not true. I know Republicans, even people who voted for and support the currrent administration, who are pro-LGBT rights, pro-free speech, even pro-choice. I think those who are here to discuss would find talking about the preservation of our rights to be who we are something important.
