Currently there is the folder "doc/manual" containing the user manual.
That manual will also include a section about user-callback. So it

Somehow I think they would be easier to find at
doc/user-callback-examples. They are not strictly part of the manual,
but standalone files that can be useful if copied/referenced on their
own.
We also do have an open Debian bug report asking for that scripts to
being installed somewhere. Where should they go on a Debian system?

FreeBSD would use /usr/(local/)share/examples for that, but this doesn't
exist on Debian. Reading through

jmw in the Debian bugtracker that /usr/share/doc/backintime is a good
place.
