A search for config files sounds like something that could take a long time 
depending on what system it's searching.  The threading might have been in 
anticipation or in response to that problem.  It sounds like the current design 
probably gives the user more freedom to go right to the config they want 
without waiting for the application to complete an exhaustive search of all 
possibilities.
