I think of a session with a moderator and an end user as described in "Don't
make me think" by Stephen Krug,
https://dn790002.ca.archive.org/0/items/SteveKrugDontMakeMeThink/Steve_Krug_Don’t_Make_Me_Think%2C.pdf#page=154
 - the comic gives an idea.

It would cover 1 task (e.g. "Start backups to an off-the shelf harddisk" or
"set up remote backups"), also touch documentation, and have as many of the
team as possible to watch - at least one. I once attended such a session from
behind a window as you know from TV-thrillers when suspects are interviewed.

Before the test the team writes a rough script for the moderator to follow
along during the session.

I guess the session shouldn't be longer than an hour, result in an actionable
list of todos and a subsequent session at latest 3 months later. This would be
4 hourly sessions a year plus the same time briefing, debriefing and
summarising.

I would highly appreciate getting in touch with NLNet and starting such UX
tests without delay.

Marcus
