Bother. db2latex doesn't really help me that much, since I'm not doing
docbook. For the moment, at least, I want to stick with XSLT for the
moment, though I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that Perl may be
worth a look. I just can't stand Perl.

Since you (presumably) know perl, I wonder if you might check the
following details about that literal newline in the paragraph handler
and let me know what the answers are:

1. Is the newline emitted before or after the paragraph? That is, is it
leading or trailing?

2. If leading (trailing), is there special handling for the first (last)
paragraph in a sequence to suppress the additional newline? If so, what
handling?
