It happens.

As far as I know, the only characters we left out that are sometimes
legal in other LISP-like languages were

 :   (infix for types)
 ^   (dereference)
 []  (array index)
 .   (identifier separator)

Well, and parenthesis, but LISP won't let you use those without using
funny symbol name hacks.
