** CapROS users: if you are running FC5 or FC6, this impacts you too.
The machine that hosts eros-os.com, coyotos.org, bitc-lang.org, and so
forth will be down for several hours tonight while we migrate it to
Fedora 8 on new hardware.
During the upgrade:
1. The primary package repository for EROS and CapROS cross tools will
be unavailable. Package download can still proceed from the
secondary, but that will be VERY SLOW.
2. The various web sites, including email archives, will be
temporarily unavailable.
3. eMail sent to any of the lists maintained on eros-os.com will be
delayed, and in some cases MAY BOUNCE (we are trying to minimize
the bounces).
In theory, we should be able to do the final cutover within a window of
about 10 minutes. In practice, DNS configurations do not always honor
DNS timeouts correctly, and the cut-over may take as much as two hours
to become visible to your local DNS server.
To prevent losses on the mailing list, we will be taking the old machine
*down* while the DNS cut-over is happening. Because of this, you may see
some delay in email appearing tonight.
As of today, www.eros-os.com is the last machine we have that is running
Fedora Core 5. Once the upgrade has completed, we will drop support for
FC5 packages in the cross tool package repository.
We will be dropping support for FC6 very soon, but there is a
compatibility issue impacting CapROS users that needs to be resolved
before we do that. Either Charlie or I will send out a note when the FC6
compatibility issue has been resolved.
Jonathan
