[...] Suggestion for terminology clarification: I think the thing you want BitC to be targeting is the CLI (Common Language Infrastructure), which is described by an ECMA spec. MSIL is the old name for CIL (the IL, not a misspelling of CLI). The CLR is Microsoft's implementation of the CLI; Mono is also a CLI implementation.
