Addendum. I just looked at the JEP 169 proposal for value types in JVM. This proposal is explicitly directed at objects not containing references. Which is to say: the same objects that can be served with the javascript typed arrays approach. I begin to think I understand why the terminology confusion between value types and unboxed types exists.
So to be clear: I'm interested in runtimes that can support unboxed types * generally*, not just those that are reference-free.
