You can browse the site without registering if you wish, but you won't get notifications of updates or add comments without registering. There's really no down side to signing up. At the moment I've got notifications set to go out in batches every 3hrs. That will certainly be too much, and I'll cut it back fairly soon, but it will help us make the shift from the mailing list to the new site if we update frequently for a few days. shap
