Well,
PPPoE uses pppd, so here's what I do when I start it up.
I use to terms side by side
term 1 is using tail -f /var/log/messages
term 2 runs the startup script
alternately, I've gone to the extreme of running tcpdump on the eth that
it was using, but I guess that's not an option.
Also, try it with another box or OS, to make sure it isn't a problem with
the remote peer
