Hey all, To start off, here's a list of open NAP's, mostly in SF. You'll notice that one is somewhat close to 498...well...maybe if you use a pringles can on the roof...plot thickens.
http://www.toaster.net/wireless/aplist.php However, that's not why I'm posting. I'm wondering if anybody knows of any firewire based 802.11 transcievers. Basically, I've got this wild idea of hacking an iPod so I can listen to icecast streams (somafm.com indie pop rocks in particular). The playlist format used in iPod and iTunes supports PLS and M3U's, so I don't think "tuning" will be a problem. FM and AM radio sucks total ass (except kusf and kalx locally) so I think this would be a worthwhile project. The only network interface that things got is firewire. I'm thinking that OS, being third party...must have a tcp stack. And it's fer durned sure it supports the mpeg 1-2 layer 3 codec. But of course, all is for not if I can't get the durned packets into the 'pod. Any ideas? Maybe firewire pcmcia with a li'l prism card might do it. but I'd like to avoid a rube goldbergian kludge. tack _______________________________________________ Bits mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.sugoi.org/mailman/listinfo/bits
