It's time to replace my Linux server and I'm seriously considering jumping off the Intel P4 bandwagon for the Athlon XP. I'd like to hear what others know about Linux's reliability / performance on the Athlon XP versus the Pentium 4. Specifically, I'm considering the XP 1700+ (1.45GHz clock / 266MHz FSB) vs the P4 1.7GHz (256k cache/400MHz FSB). It'll be used primarily as a file + web server and will be running RH7.2 and Gnome. Cost is a consideration. Also, is Sledgehammer going to be worth the wait?
