"I vote in favour of closing this discussion"

New Biz list policy proposal. In the future perhaps we can submit viral
marketers email addresses to certain spam lists as a touch of revenge?
Perhaps Simon could put that little warning somewhere on the website and
deter further marketing efforts with this...

So can we consider this closed now? Raise your hands if you agree that
we should move on.

| First, I had know that my e-mail would create such a problem.

I, for one, got the impression from the original posting that you were
a disinterested party. Note: the word "disinterested" is not a
synonym of "uninterested".

Your mail seems to have been intentionally misleading in this respect.
Perhaps this was unintentional, but several of us felt duped.

That should be acceptable nowhere. Not just this list.

| "If you are a commercial supplier, please contact "asterisk-owner at
uc
| dot org" for approval before sending messages of a commercial nature."

At least for me, this was the major problem with the posting.

| I saw other e-mails saying "I have some stuff for sale etc." so I
| thought cool. I'll post the new product. Another big mistake.

Done in the right way, it would have been not just acceptable, but
but valuable.

The "right way" would be transparent and informative. For example,
you could say why you created the thing and what made you think it was
needed. Much more effective for your purposes and the readers' too.

| SO BASED ON THAT. AGAIN, EVERYONE PLEASE EXCEPT MY TOTAL APOLOGY. I
| WITHDRAW THE WHOLE THING AND WILL NEVER AGAIN POST A THING OF THIS
| NATURE.

Fine, as long as we agree on what "a thing of this nature" is. A
product announcement or description is not "of this nature".
Astroturfing is.

It is great that you have created such a product. Great that some
of that has been done locally. Best of luck with your project. Do
tell us more. Like, for example, how you did it.

Don't consider yourself banned from the list, just try to post
constructively. We all make faux pas.
