Hello Paul,As for as I know there are no local pickups for
GSM gateways in Canada. I also don't believe that there are many
resellers for GSM VoIP gateways either. One of the ones in GTA is
www.qiiq.com. It's a petty that there are no local resellers for it but
of course there is no demand for it either. In North American societies
cost of a Cell Phone call is way higher than a wired phone. While, it's
just the opposite in lots of other places in the world. There are many
many vendors of GSM VoIP gateways all through Europe. But the product
is simply not useful in North America. I remember asking a Digium
Engineer that I met at VON last year about GSM products and he told me
that their cards support all codecs :) (gsm, g711, g729, etc....)
After I explained to him what I was looking for then he was amazed and
he was asking me question about such a product.Anyways....When buying a GSM
Gateway you have to consider two things:First of all, there are two different
type of GSM gateways. 1= the ones that connect to analogue exchange or simply
interface between wired lines and GSM SIM card.2=
the GSM VoIP gateways that have a WAN port which connect to the
internet and to a SIP server like Asterisk. So, depending on your needs
you have to pick one. You can always connect a GSM analogue gateway to
another FXS device (e.g. tenor gateways) to connect it to an IP network
but that is just doubling the cost and equipment for no reason if you
want to use Voice over IP.Finally, you have to know what kind
of frequency is the carrier using. In North America it's usually
850/1900 while in lots (I say most of) Asian countries they use
900/1800 frequency. There are lots of these gateways that support quad
bands (850,900,1800,1900) but there are the ones that just support two. So you
have to be careful and do your study before you purchase these. You
can check www.voip-info.org for a big list of GSM VoIP gateways
providers and sellers or try Ebay for "GSM VoIP". 2n is one of the big
players in the business for GSM VoIP gateways. There are some Taiwanese
(really cheap) GSM gateways too that can be purchased online. If you do buy
some of these. Let us know how they perform.Cheers,Bruce> From: [EMAIL
