I know this sounds odd.

I have a situation where a client is looking for 100 support people, to call
into the system (asterisk) from their POTS lines at home. Once they have
"checked-in", they stay on their phones waiting for in-bound calls. I suspect
that each support person would have 10 in queue (or more!).

When an inbound call comes in, they want each support person to have their own
"on hold message" greeting the person(s) in their queues. They would like to
have messages like "You are in position 9 in the queue". They want all of the
support calls to be recorded. They also would like to have the support person's
call interrupted every 5 minutes with a quick announcement to them of how many
people are in the queue (eg. "8 in queue").

Do people think Asterisk can do this? Reliably?

Do you think a pure VoIP solution (for Trunks) can handle this?

Are there other things to consider outside of Asterisk that I should consider?
(eg. How to keep the connection costs low? Call queue could be HUGE, is there a
way to off-load while the server handles all of the harder stuff?

Regards,

Chuck
