*Religious Opposition to Prop 8 Grows. *
"Proposition 8," if approved by California voters this November, would take
away the freedom to marry from lesbian and gay couples in California by
writing discrimination into the California State Constitution. A growing
number of religious organizations, clergy, and congregations are working
hard to defeat this measure, including the California-Nevada Chapter
Steering Committee of the Methodist Federation for Social Action, which
voted unanimously on Saturday, August 9, 2008 to oppose Proposition 8.
