Chandra Hauptman wrote: From: KPFA Staff Announcements <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: KPFA Staff: Policy Update To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 4:22 PM *Policy Update* I would like to respond the concerns and questions that were raised about KPFA policies and practices around workplace safety, security procedures and disciplinary actions. *Updated Policies and Procedures* *Security Policy and Procedures * To ensure the safety of workplace we will implement the following updated Security Policy and procedures effective September 10th , 2008. To ensure that this updated Security Procedure and Policy is effectively implemented, all current door codes will be terminated. KPFA employees and volunteers will be issued new, individual door codes upon completing an acknowledgement of this policy and registering their name and identification. 1. All staff must have an individual door code and must use that door code each time they access the building. 2. Only individuals with an individual door code and authorized guests and visitors are allowed onto KPFA premises. 3. Do not share your door code under any circumstances. 4. All visitors and guests without a door code must enter through the front entrance, sign in with reception and gain authorization to enter. 5. Do not allow visitors or guests to enter the building with you unless they have signed in at reception and are authorized to enter. 6. Do not allow visitors or guests to "piggyback" and enter the building as you enter. 7. During regular business hours: If someone without a door code is seeking access through the back door, please ask them to go around to the front entrance and enter through reception. 8. If someone without a door code is seeking access to the building, the person who invited them to the station must sign that person into the building and escort them into the building. 9. You are responsible for the conduct of your guests and visitors when they are in the building. 10. Do not prop open the entrances to the building. If you need to keep a door open when you are loading or unloading equipment, someone must stay by the door for the entire time it is propped open. 11. With the exception of short breaks, KPFA Reception will be staffed at times during KPFA regular business hours which are Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 12pm and 1pm - 5:00pm. *Unauthorized visitors or guests: * 1. Call 911 immediately if you observe someone committing or threatening violence or damaging or stealing KPFA equipment/facility. 2. If a visitor or guest is not authorized to be at KPFA (they have not signed in, do not have a door code, do not have a staff escort) you should report this to a manager. If no manager is on duty then you may ask that person to leave. However, do not attempt to physically remove anyone from the premises yourself. 3. If no manager is on duty and you do not feel comfortable asking someone who is not authorized to be on the premises to leave, please contact Sasha Lilley, Program Director. All emergency contact information is posted in on-air studio. If you are unable to reach a manager, then you should call Berkeley Police. 4. If you have to ask someone to leave or the police are called then report the incident to the General Manager as soon as possible. ======================================================= *Current Policies* *Pacifica Employee Handbook* As a reminder, the current polices that apply to all KPFA employees can be found in the Pacifica Employee Handbook. * *The following polices are supplements to the Pacifica Employee Handbook and applicable to all KPFA employees: * *Prevention of Violence in the Workplace Policy* * *Prohibiting Workplace Violence – "Zero" Tolerance for Violence Policy* The Progressive Discipline policy on page 18 of the Pacifica Employee Handbook will be applied in all instances of confirmed policy violations including violations of the Security Policy and Procedures. All KPFA managers are authorized to enforce the policies contained in the Pacifica Employee Handbook and outlined in this policy update. Thank you for your attention.
