A letter sent to the *Tallahassee Democrat* warning of a planned attack in
Florida on the life of an unnamed Democratic candidate has been turned over
to the authorities.

"We did take the initial report," said Officer David McCranie of the
Tallahassee Police Department. "Our criminal intelligence unit has notified
the Secret Service and they will be following up on information contained in
the note."
The envelope containing the anonymous letter has a Jacksonville return
address and arrived at the newspaper's office Thursday. The letter is
addressed to "editor." Also enclosed was the Florida driver's license of one
of the men purportedly involved in the alleged plot.
"This group of men (is) talking about Tampa area. ... (These) men are
serious about this attack," the letter reads. "Someone here at Florida needs
t(o) do something."
The U.S. Secret Service could not be reached for comment about the status of
the investigation.
