As of this morning, nearly 1 MILLION Georgians have cast an early ballot.
Since registration closed, YDG has been promoting and pushing young voters to
get to the polls early. While the Secretary of State does not report on the
ages of the early voters, anecdotal evidence indicates that the tripling of the
Democratic Youth turnout across the state was no fluke. Young people are
engaged as never before, and we will show up in numbers to vote Democratic that
will shock many people. But the Young Democrats of Georgia needs your help in
the final push for young voter turnout. We have to act fast in these last days
to bring these new, young, energized voters back to the polls for Democrats and
keep them active in our party. Our time period is short, but our 50+ chapters
around the state are already at work, and we need your support.

What This Means to Georgia's Democrats:

Most people did not give Democrats a chance to win this year in Georgia. Since
2002, the state has been trending Republican. Governor Sonny Perdue openly
mocked the Obama campaign for running ads and spending money opening over 30
offices around the state. Yet, 11 days before the election, both Barack Obama
& Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Martin are within striking range in a
state President Bush carried by 17 points in 2004.

Despite John McCain's popularity in Georgia (54 percent favorable ? 30 percent
unfavorable), he leads Obama by just two points, 46 ? 44 percent. Despite Jim
Martin's lack of name recognition (55 percent name identification), he trails
incumbent Senator Saxby Chambliss by just 4 points, 44 ? 48 percent. The
Republican brand is tarnished in Georgia and a national wave threatens to carry
the state to Democratic shores. Obama and Martin still trail and must make
gains to win here, but the fact that Georgia is even close speaks to powerful
political currents across the country.

In the 2006 elections, the ONLY voter group to give a majority of their votes
to Democrats was Georgia's Young Voters. We understand the stakes and why
voting for Democrats is important. And we will turn out again this year and
give an even bigger majority of our votes to Barack Obama and Jim Martin.
Turnout will be the key, and that's what YDG is all about these next 11 days.
By helping YDG, you help Democrats send Saxby Shameless home and usher in a new
era of progressive values where the middle class is not forgotten.
