*Dr. Richard J. Powell*, John Spencer Bassett Professor of Art & Art History
and Professor of African/African American Studies, Duke University will join
us for a gallery talk in conjunction with our exhibition, *Aaron Douglas:
African American Modernist <http://ga6.org/ct/A1deC0K1aqDy/>*. A leading
scholar in the field of African American art, Powell is the author of many
books including *Black Art: A cultural History (2000)* and has written
articles on a topics such as the works of Jacob Lawrence and Barkley L.
Hendricks, and the relationship of the blues aesthetic to African American
culture and modernism.

discussion.
