Thanks for the tip on the BC as well. I would think if the cattle prod wouldn't stop your guy, he must be some kind of macho man!
PS to Phil - whatever you get for your kids - get them young. I have a pygmy in with my Barbado wether and another Nubian goat and the pygmy is the one who will go out of her way to butt anything close to her size, kids especially.

My ram Zane's next favorite passion in life after wanting to mate with his ewes is wanting to kill me. Several months ago, he trashed me pretty good. He rammed me into the side of the barn. I was black and blue in many places. Last year I was okay for awhile using a cattle prod. I could even mimic the noise that it makes and get the ram to back off. He eventually decided that the shock he received on the nose was a fair price to pay for an opportunity to charge me so I had to look for another option. I bought a fully trained border collie and it was the best investment I've made in a long time.
I now position my border collie so that he is always between me and the ram. He also sits in front of the gate and stays there until I am out of the pasture before he will let the rams out of their pen. The rams continue to test him, but after he has gripped them they respect him for a few weeks until he has to grip them again. Hopefully his courage will outlast their persistence.
