From all I have read on these sheep, the amount of wool or what we refer toas 'Knit' that they have depends largely on what climate they are raised in. Our Barbados sheep do put on a knit under the hair in the winter months. On some it is light and on others it seems somewhat thicker knit. But they all shed it automatically when the weather warms up. My ram even likes to have me brush it out of him. They will rub what they can off and the rest seems to fall off. Being in southestern South Dakota, it does get cold and yet they will lay outside in the wintertime often. I guess Helmut and Christine could say more about this as far as Canadian winters go. This is what we have found in ours.
I agree with you Christine - the horns are easier to hold on to when they need to be caught, although he's getting harder and harder for me to hang on to. LOL Sue Miller
