Hi all, I have a ewe that had babies yesterday. Her udder is very large, but it is hard and only a little milk comes out at a time. I have had to start supplementing the babies with a bottle because they just aren't getting enough milk out - even though it seems like she should have lots of milk based on the size of her udder. She did not have any lumps or hardness to her udder when there was no milk in it. The milk she is producing is good, just not much of it is coming out (what she's letting down to the babies). Anyone with any ideas on what can be done to bring her bag down and let the babies drink the milk? We had some oxytocin (sp?) we gave her, but the medicine is old, so I don't know how much potency it has - it didn't seem to have any effect. Still trying to find a vet that will either write us an RX or come out - so far, all they want to work on is horses - not sheep.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
