I'm just starting with blackbox, and I like it a lot.

I didn't have to make any code changes at all to get an "always available"
patch of root window.

Configure the toolbar for
- always on top
- auto hide

This will leave a sliver of the toolbar, just a few pixels high, visible on
the screen.  If you aren't looking for it you won't notice it.

Now maximize a window, and it stops just above the sliver of the toolbar.

If your toolbar is on the bottom left, then there is a small patch of root
window just to the right of the toolbar, just under the bottom of the
maximized window.
