You have to ask the application to go into the slit. A good example is
in the various bbtools -- you usually run them like:
    bbpager -w
Which 'w'ithdraws the application into the slit. Also, most dockapps
(from WindowMaker) will automatically go there.

That application is called gkrellm (http://gkrellm.net), and contains a
number of different system monitors, network monitors (including an
email notifier), and more. It, too, can be 'withdrawn' into the slit
with the '-w' option.
