Sorry about not responding sooner. I did many BlackBox styles and I
post all of them on FreshMeat. Here's a quick run-through:

1. Make an user account on FM ("register"). It requires a valid email
address.

2. Go into the "themes" section on FM (themes.freshmeat.net) and hit
"submit". Make sure you are in the themes section, "submit" is
section-sensitive.

3. For the new "project" (your style):
   - choose the section: themes
   - full project name: My Incredibly Beautiful BlackBox Style
   - short project name, no spaces: mybbs
   - full desc, short desc
   - choose a license
   - put in a homepage if you have one that demonstrates the style
   - do NOT post a tarball or any file package location
   - put in a version number, and set release to 1
   - go to step 2
   - upload a tarball containing the style and a screenshot
   - step 3 means assigning your style to various topical categories
   - wait for the submission to be approved (can take up to 2 days)

4. For a proper short and long description, read the instructions
found here: <http://themes.freshmeat.net/articles/view/439/>,
otherwise the FM staff will edit your descriptions into something
you'll probably not gonna like :)

5. Tarball content: it's best to put in a directory called "styles"
and the style in it, eventually one called "backgrounds" and any
background you want in it. Add a readme if you want. Some instructions
for the BlackBox newbie would be great. I, for one, try to stop at
backgrounds, and only recommend other stuff. Bundling fonts, GTK
themes, gkrellm skins and so on is not an extremely inspired move.

6. Careful with the screenshot you submit. FM crops it to the
upper-left corner, at 640x480. Either resize the shot before
submission, or make sure the visible corner shows off relevant
features.

7. There are helpful instructions all over the place on the FM pages.

8. More tips: there's an editorial full of it, the link is on the step
1 submission page. Quick tip: be careful what you choose for the root
command in the style. It's best to go with bsetbg or bsetroot, without
a path. People put in all kinds of image loading software which the
users don't have then they have to go and edit the style and they get
pissed. :) Quick tip: choose your topical categories sensibly. I've seen
great styles left to rust because they had been submitted to the
completely wrong categories.

One submission and you'll get the hang of it. Dave, if you have any
questions feel free to ask.
