my stance on gestures is they are a neat idea but not so good for user friendliness. Many people dislike the core unix editors (emacs, vi, others) because to really use them you have to learn keyboard shortcuts. G, h,j,k,l, C-x, M-x, C-y, and on and on. The reason people dislike this style of interface is because they are very unproductive early on. On top of this you have the "what just happened???" reponse when you accidently do C-d when you meant to do C-f. Yes all of this can be overcome with effort, learning and practice. Now enters gestures. At least with keybindings you have a clue what you just did. With gestures someone bopping your mouse could close your term window or spawn 3 term windows. That kind of random, unpredictable nature of the interface just does not appeal to me. Then there is the practical side. Supporting gestures means more overhead, a way to edit them, etc. Remember the more you do the more you grow. Anyway, that is my take on the subject. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] List archives: http://asgardsrealm.net/lurker/splash/index.html Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
