*I* think it's xscreensaver, although jwz has his own take on it (there
have been several Debian bugs filed on this).
I've not looked at what blackbox does lately, but I *have* looked at what
openbox 3.2 (which generates the same errors) does, and it's bone-stupid.
Even *I* understand how that messaging code works.
Jwz claims that something is trying to send messages via the root window,
getting confused, and sending them to xscreensaver instead. It quite
properly doesn't understand them, and so posts the error. The code is so
simple, though, that if that's what's actually happening, there would IMHO
have to be a bug in xlib somewhere and it's *xlib* that's sending them to
xscreensaver.
In any case, they're harmless.
